A new discipline for a new dimension

We introduce the term temporal-haptic to describe the Polyopticon’s unique combination of physical manipulation and temporal storage and manipulation. It is important to note that the design and development of the device implies a new mode for implementing user interfaces. Additionally, the entire design domain that the Polyopticon makes possible is imbued with this temporal-haptic model.

Temporal-haptics is, in our eyes, a succinct way to capture the emergence of a broader discipline of designing systems that intrinsically augment user experience in a way that frees the physical and sensory systems. It also implies that all the objects that the device interacts with are likewise enabled to interact in the three physical dimensions and time. Development and adoption of a four-dimensional object model is a necessity to fully realize the capabilities the Polyopticon offers.
